Tanks can have any shape provided the dimension in the direction of flow permits settling of solids. For projects where mass production is possible, cylindrical tanks may be the cheapest option. If mass production is not possible, rectangular tanks are better and can often be built with the participation of the community. Figure 10.3 shows the tanks built in the Granada and San Zenon pilot project. The interceptor tanks discharge into a small box equipped with a screen on the outlet pipe to retain any floating solids that might escape from the tank (see Figure 10.4). |
