Gruff Rhys<\/a> was back in town with \u00be of Y Niwl <\/a>as his backing band and the animal like drummer Kliph<\/a> (Boy! can he bash those drums!). As it was Aluntanlan<\/a>\u2019s birthday I made him a cake and dropped it off earlier \u201cDon\u2019t miss Gwenno Saunders tonight \u2013 she\u2019s great\u201d<\/p>\n

\"Gwenno\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Gwenno <\/a>was indeed great. \u201cAll revolutions start with ordinary people\u201d. Like a Welsh Julee Cruise, her dreamy vocals drifted on an electronic wave with odd films of 60\u2019s America and buildings being blown up, projected onto her. \u201cThis one\u2019s about when the robots take over and the only people who survive are the ones who speak Welsh\u2026..\u201d Got her \u2018Y Dydd Olaf<\/a>\u2019 CD \u2013 one to watch!<\/p>\n

\"Gruff1\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Gruff\u2019s \u2018American Interior\u2019<\/a> show has grown to be part history lesson, part road trip, part stand up comedy with some great tunes to fill it out. Tonight was more polished than I\u2019ve seen him before but still had a slightly knowing shambolic charm to it. John Evans story is an amazing one and his telling of it with the aid of a projected backdrop shouldn\u2019t be missed. Bass player Sion and Alun even got to do a bit of acting which went down well.<\/p>\n

\"Gruff2\"<\/a><\/p>\n

They did a long old set whilst telling the story, then came back for more. \u201cSorry for all you hard working people who have to get up tomorrow but we\u2019re doing the long show tonight\u201d before an extended \u2018Skylon!\u2019 and \u2018Sensations in the Dark\u2019 sent us home happy. A fantastic night!<\/p>\n
