I had heard some of their tracks before but wasn\u2019t overly impressed. That changed when I saw this \u2018spectacle\u2019 (at least ten levels above a performance).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sleigh-munoz.co.uk\/quims\/2013\/10\/07\/the-hives-cape-town-south-africa-5th-october-2013\/sequence-01-still002\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2999\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2999\" alt=\"Sequence 01.Still002\" src=\"https:\/\/sleigh-munoz.co.uk\/quims\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Sequence-01.Still002.jpg\" width=\"720\" height=\"576\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sleigh-munoz.co.uk\/quims\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Sequence-01.Still002.jpg 720w, https:\/\/sleigh-munoz.co.uk\/quims\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Sequence-01.Still002-250x200.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Just like a theatre production it consisted of elaborate costumes, moments of excruciating suspense and of course ninja roadies. It was either an extremely lucky or (more likely) a perfectly planned showcase with drumsticks flying in the air, guitars swinging on straps and the lead singer diving off of the monitors all in perfect synchrony to some fabulously fast beats.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sleigh-munoz.co.uk\/quims\/2013\/10\/07\/the-hives-cape-town-south-africa-5th-october-2013\/hives\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3000\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3000\" alt=\"hives\" src=\"https:\/\/sleigh-munoz.co.uk\/quims\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/hives.jpg\" width=\"379\" height=\"292\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sleigh-munoz.co.uk\/quims\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/hives.jpg 379w, https:\/\/sleigh-munoz.co.uk\/quims\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/hives-250x192.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 379px) 100vw, 379px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As if this wasn\u2019t enough, every break in this high energy thrill ride is filled with Howlin&#8217; Pelle Almqvist\u2019s mind breaking propaganda. With quotes such as \u201cin this next song we are going to make the universe explode\u201d or \u201cwhat should I call you? South Africa? Cape Town?&#8230; I know \u2013 Hives Fans\u201d. Every note, every word, even every pause is perfectly constructed to convince you that they are the best band you will ever see. Be warned they have the confidence and manic arrogance to make you believe them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sleigh-munoz.co.uk\/quims\/2013\/10\/07\/the-hives-cape-town-south-africa-5th-october-2013\/sequence-01-still014\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3001\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3001\" alt=\"Sequence 01.Still014\" src=\"https:\/\/sleigh-munoz.co.uk\/quims\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Sequence-01.Still014.jpg\" width=\"720\" height=\"576\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sleigh-munoz.co.uk\/quims\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Sequence-01.Still014.jpg 720w, https:\/\/sleigh-munoz.co.uk\/quims\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Sequence-01.Still014-250x200.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>By far the best act of the festival, I went in thinking that they were just another simplistic \u2018punkish\u2019 rock n roll band but I left truly impressed with their amazing presence and showmanship.
