Is there a better time to be putting on a show of hope set in a time of depression? I don’t think so. I must admit to being a tad biased about this show as my neice Ellen is part of the cast and tonight she was in the leading role – and what a brilliant performance she put on for us. For singing/dancing and great sets you couldn’t do better. There’s a reason it’s had rave reviews and plays to packed houses – go see!

In this clip she’s the Annie standing second left…..it’s a hard knock life!

Ellen and sisters Anja and Celine enjoy some well deserved post-performance attention. Big smiles all round (well, you’re never fully dressed without one are you!).

The Lemonheads come to town to play ‘It’s a Shame About Ray‘ in all its glory and a whole other set of thrashy harmonious loveliness besides. What should have been a riotous occasion was instead just ‘okay’ with only sporadic bits of animated dance from the strangely ‘flat’ audience – not the massed leaping about I’d expected. It wasn’t that the band were lacklustre (there was a display of perhaps the best drumming I’ve encountered all year) but perhaps Evan Dando’s lack of interaction between songs was a factor. Still, I got to see him do a solo version of ‘Outdoor Type‘ which was worth the entrance fee alone..

Wire played a blistering set that spanned their whole career and unlike a lot of bands still going from the 70’s, their new stuff is arguably better than their old. The new blade on guitar complemented their sound wonderfully with thrashy sounds heavy enough for the most dedicated Nirvana fan. A sonic wave of loveliness that you didn’t want to end – Two encores just wasn’t enough. I noted last time I saw them that they had a Mac on stage – this has been updated to an iPad that did some pretty groovy looped stuff…..can I have one please?

This September was Bob’s 25th Anniversary of working for the NHS so a medical themed meeting seemed in order. We met at fellow NHS employee Dr P’s (who was about to have shoulder surgery). Roger was deflated by non-NHS work and hadn’t had the energy to make a playlist, he did however have a spectacularly inflated elbow due to bursitis. Bob was running on one eye as he’s awaiting cateract surgery after having his retina re-attached earlier this year. John and Jez were happily free of ailments……….
