We hadn’t got around to meeting this year but managed to squeeze one in at Si’s before the year was out. Politics seemed an obvious topic with a General Election looming and all the bollox around Brexit that just won’t go away. Great food and chat as ever – list of what was played here:

They’re used to playing big festival crowds around Europe, but tonight it’s a family affair for Pedestrians (Switzerlands premier Reggae band) in the tiny room at the Book Club. Band members have been friends of the Swiss-Longworth family for many years and the Longies came out in force for what was a great night.

Showcasing tunes from their new CD ‘Sweet Space’, they skanked the night away with hit after hit showing off their pop-reggea style and mastery of dub to a T. Everyone danced along which carried on at the disco afterwards….

A night of intergalactic fun with the bonkers Henge – here to entertain Eathlings and demand peace.

First up were ‘Evil Usses‘ from Bristol who were great – pulsating tunes that sometimes went in an unexpected direction but always a good one.

Henge were great fun at BlueDot earlier this year so it was a no-brainer to go and see them again – they obviously have a ball and make the evening into an event with band members in white coats milling with the crowd before the start and costume changes for the dancers and lots of sing alongs and clap along songs.

Great night

Having really enjoyed King Khan with his soul band the Shrines we thought we’d give his punk band a go and saw two brilliant support bands.

Strange Cages hail from Brighton and did a lively set of rocking tunes. The drummer was out of this world and with a great frontman and a bucketfull of good tunes – they should go far – loved them!

Leeds own Surface Waves did an amazing set of heavy guitar tunes that blew us away! Hard rocking and catchy as hell – I wish I could play guitar like that….can’t wait to see them again!

King Khan is a funny guy and his louder than death outfit were like a comedy punk outfit with songs about unsavoury subjects (including a new one about Brexit). Funny, but we decided to leave before the end….

….to catch the end of open mike night at the Pack Horse – The pub for Leeds Engineers (it’s opposite the Engineering block of the University).

Working for Festival Medical services meant that Leeds had to Travel to Reading. Glorious sunshine and a whole lot of music and comedy – full report to follow
