Some of the gang from work went to this gig – I was otherwise disposed so Adam the Osteopath offered to write it up…..
We enjoy going to gigs at Korks, for us it involves a good dinner on the early bird menu, (mussels and lamb hot pot for me), a couple of pints and then the concert in the Piano Bar. The landlord Chris Paine is a big character and has had the wine bar for more years than I can remember. He and his staff are very welcoming and helpful. The piano bar is a nice little concert venue, it holds about 70 but we have never seen it full so its very relaxed and cosy. The tickets for tonight £7 or £10 on the door.
Edwina has a very engaging stage presence. In between songs she will tell you something of her experiences playing in folk clubs around Britain and also in her second home; Nashville. Her music and chat is very easy to listen to – you can’t help but like her.
Her style is described as gentle folk-Americana and to be critical you would have to say her idea of and upbeat number is Scarborough fair! Looking at her travels tells a story in that it ranges from Barnsley folk clubs to the Orkney folk festival (which I went to a few years ago but that’s another story). She has opened numerous shows for Jools Holland and Van Morrison and the title track of her album Pour Me A Drink was covered by Nanci Griffith who calls her ‘The sweetest voice in England’.
Her cover of the Randy Newman song ‘Feels Like Home‘ was featured in the Cameron Diaz film ‘My Sister’s Keeper’ and has since had over two million plays on You Tube.

So all in all a really nice evening of listening to a class performer doing her own material and covers in a gentle Americana style of folk music.
A good one to take your wife or girl friend to…………but not, as they say, both.
