The Lemonheads come to town to play ‘It’s a Shame About Ray‘ in all its glory and a whole other set of thrashy harmonious loveliness besides. What should have been a riotous occasion was instead just ‘okay’ with only sporadic bits of animated dance from the strangely ‘flat’ audience – not the massed leaping about I’d expected. It wasn’t that the band were lacklustre (there was a display of perhaps the best drumming I’ve encountered all year) but perhaps Evan Dando’s lack of interaction between songs was a factor. Still, I got to see him do a solo version of ‘Outdoor Type‘ which was worth the entrance fee alone..
