A fun night with Moonlandingz – the UK’s best imaginary band who played an entertaining, if rather short set
First up were Hank Haint and the Cruickshanks, last seen supporting the wonderful Meatbodies. There were a few technical hitches tonight but thankfully, Moonlandingz drummer stepped in and saved the day by re-routing them through the main bands amp. Rock solid riffs all the way – Great stuff!
Now if you were putting together an imaginary band….who would you have in it………..? Frank Zappa, E from the Eels……
…2 drummers, one from the Stranglers and one from Status Quo (but let one of them play keyboards)…..
….Nick Drake…no, Nick Drakes sister Gabrielle and the guy from the 118 adverts….
What a beautiful noise they’d make……
Tonights imaginary band were first mentioned in a ‘Eccentronic Research Council’ song who feature the coolest woman in showbiz – Maxine Peake. Read about them here. I first heard them earlier this week on Marc Rileys 6Music show (where else) and thought ‘I’ve got to see these!’ 60’s acid tinged synth + guitar with driving drums and bass – reminded me of another moon – Moon Duo. I just wish they had played a longer set as what they did play, was awesome. Lias Saoudi is a fantastic front man – Fat White Family are now firmly on the ‘must see’ list….
It was all over by 10.15 so Sledge and I were in Wharfe Chambers by 10.30 for a quiet end to a lovely evening. If you’re going to see them, my advice would be………don’t be late!
